Yep, the land of beansprout chicken rice and Kellie's Castle is the 'oldest' state in Malaysia.
Chief Statistician of Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin told The Star Online that 14.9 per cent of Perak's population is aged 60 and above.
He said Perak outpaced other states in Malaysia in terms of becoming an ageing population, but it's not because its citizens are aging faster.
According to Dr Mohd Uzir, many retirees decide to move to Perak "because it doesn’t seem too hectic".
The second and third oldest states in Malaysia are Perlis and Penang, with senior citizens making up 13.1 per cent and 12.7 per cent of their population respectively, revealed Dr Mohd Uzir.
So, which states in Malaysia are the slowest to age?
Well, the senior citizens in Kelantan and Terengganu make up only 9.7 per cent and 8.7 per cent of the entire population in those states, making them the 'youngest' among the oldest states in the country.
Interestingly, there are not a lot of old people in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, as senior citizens in those states account for only 8 per cent and 10.4 per cent of the entire population.
Looks like nobody likes to retire in the big cities, it seems.
