‘Cicak Man’ Arrested in Melaka. No, Not the Superhero But a Burglar Who Has Allegedly Raided 22 Homes
You may expect a burglar to break into your home by opening a window or a door, but you wouldn’t expect him to scale a drainage pipe to enter. However, that’s exactly what a burglar dubbed ‘Cicak Man’ did.
As reported by The Star, the Cicak Man was seemingly adept at burglaries. He was suspected of carrying out approximately 22 burglaries in Melaka since early 2024, primarily in Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah. He was known by the alias Khairi@Cicak. His quirky nickname refers to the 2006 Malaysian superhero film Cicak Man, which starred Saiful Apek, who was known for his gecko-like powers, like sticking to walls.

The 42-year-old burglar was finally nabbed at a Durian Tunggal hotel in Melaka at 4:20 pm on 16 October.
Interestingly, a source close to the case revealed that the suspect’s tactic included climbing walls to break in. The police are also conducting ongoing investigations to ascertain the suspect’s possible involvement in thefts that occurred in other states.
He wasn’t just a serial burglar; state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Zainol said the suspect had tested positive for narcotics. He also had 14 cases in his criminal record, including 10 break-in cases and those linked to drug abuse. “A bag containing what is suspected to be drugs was also seized during the hotel room raid,” said Wira. As reported by The Sun, the black bag contained a transparent plastic package filled with crystal-like lumps believed to be methamphetamine weighing 5.34 grams.

During the arrest, the police recovered 92 items worth RM150,000. These included ten mobile phones, pieces of jewellery like rings, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets, branded clothing, a motorcycle, various foreign currencies, and a bag bearing the ‘Majlis Guru Besar SJK (C ) Negeri Melaka’ emblem.
The suspect has been remanded until 25 October to assist in investigations under section 457 of the Penal Code.
