Stubborn repeat offenders may end up having their business closed or sent to jail warned Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a special televised address, the prime minister said the government would be enforcing more stringent regulations when it came to COVID-19 SOP soon.
“Compliance of SOP in workplaces, workers’ lodging and business premises is crucial for us to break the chain of COVID-19 infection.
"Enforcement measures must be intensified to ensure compliance of SOP. The Emergency Management Technical Committee have scrutinised the sections under Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1998) which need to be amended to allow for stricter and quicker enforcement measures,” he said during the address.
Higher compounds for offenders
Other than jail time, repeat offenders could also be served with higher compounds.(He did not provide further details though, but we're pretty sure that the Emergency Management Technical Committee will make further announcements on this soon.)
"The government will not hesitate to take action against any party found to be violating the rules or SOP," he stressed.
Muhyiddin added that to date, the police had served compounds to 82,141 individuals for going against the SOP with 31,740 others arrested so far.
A total of 197 factories have also been served warnings when it came to SOP adherence with 34 factories closed down so far.
