It is a pretty known fact that Zoo Negara has been in the limelight this year due to its financial problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the good news is, the lack of visitors during the Movement Control Order (MCO) has led to the animals in the zoo mating more than usual.
The animals have been so "happy" that 55 new baby animals were welcomed this year.
Cute baby wallabies. Malaysian Zoological Society deputy president Rosly@Rahmat Ahmat Lana confirmed this in a report by New Straits Times.
He said that the large number of births were a blessing for the zoo as it is a record of sorts.

Babies galore

Among the baby animals born in the zoo include wallabies, nyala antelope, banteng (wild cattle of Borneo), Malayan porcupine, brush tailed porcupine, greater mousedeer, pademelon, Indian gaur, capybara and red lechwe antelope.
He added that the zoo’s breeding programme was also successful with the breeding of various species such as copperhead racers, mangrove snakes, granite pythons, albino pythons and Wagler's pit vipers. Awwwww... Zoo Negara's Zoology, Veterinary and Giant Panda Conservation Centre director Dr Mat Naim Ramli was also quoted in the report as saying that he hoped the large number of births could raise awareness of conservation efforts among the public.
He also mentioned that the zoo needed more funding now with the addition of more animals.
We hope all the baby animals are doing well and if you'd like to help out, do head on over to Zoo Negara's website and do your part for our animal friends.
