Have you noticed that suddenly everyone has taken interest in cycling and there’s an influx of cyclists on the road?
Well, it’s good that many Malaysians are adopting healthier lifestyles, but some of these cyclists’ antics on the road are actually putting not only themselves in danger, but other road users too.
Prevention is better than cure
According to Harian Metro, individuals cycling on highways or certain roads will be fined not more than RM1,000 and or prisoned not more than three months.

Investigations and Traffic Enforcement department director DCP Dato’ Azisman Alias says that the law can be found under the Road Transport Act 1987 Section 70 (1).
He also advised those cycling in groups to steer away from highways or busy roads as they are not suitable to cycle.
“We take the safety of all road users seriously including their health. Cycling on busy roads will also expose to them to exhaust fumes,” Azisman said.
Besides the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Olympic medalist and national cyclist Azizulhasni Awang also advised his fellow cyclists to not cycle dangerously on the road.
“From what I hear from friends and cycling enthusiasts, some of you cycle recklessly and some even run red lights,” the Pocket Rocketman said via his Instagram.
“To all cyclists, please obey the road rules. Respect other road users and please implement necessary safety measures when cycling.”
So to all cyclists out there – T20 bikes or kiddie bikes, always remember to be aware of your surroundings, cycle safely, and respect other road users.
