It has been an exhaustive and emotional whirlwind for Malaysians during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for our health frontliners.

And 10 June marks a bittersweet day for the Health Ministry Deputy Director-General (Medical) Datuk Dr Rohaizat Yon.

Dr Noor Hisham is sad

During the daily COVID-19 press conference, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah ended the session with an announcement of Dr Rohaizat’s retirement.

Hisham was seen trying to hold back his tears as he made the announcement.

“Today is the last day of work for one of my “panglima perang” (war generals) who will retire. He has been serving the Health Ministry for 35 years and 10 days and has been in the team battling against Covid-19 together,” Hisham said.

“Many thanks to Dr Rohaizat for his high level of commitment throughout his service for the people of Malaysia.”

Netizens were touched after watching DG Hisham’s announcement, and also thanked Dr Rohaizat for his service to the nation and wished him a happy retirement.

In an interview with The Star Online, the former Health Deputy DG said that COVID-19 was the most challenging task throughout his career.

“We have not stopped working since the COVID-19 outbreak started in December. Even on Hari Raya, although we were allowed some relaxation, we still had to come to work, ” he said.

Aww!
Thank you Dr Rohaizat for everything you’ve done for the country, it’s your turn to rest now.
