Reclassified as red zone
A district in Selangor has been reclassified as a Red Zone on Tuesday (5 May).
According to a report by The New Straits Times, the Petaling district, which has already been classified as a Yellow Zone last week, recorded 13 new cases as of Tuesday.
That total pushed their tally to 52 active cases.
On Monday, Petaling only recorded a total of 39 cases.
With Petaling being reclassified as a Red Zone, there are now 10 Red Zones accross Malaysia:
- Hulu Langat (Selangor)
- Gombak (Selangor)
- Sri Petaling (Kuala Lumpur)
- Batu (Kuala Lumpur)
- Ibu Kota (Kuala Lumpur)
- Kampung Bharu (Kuala Lumpur)
- Kluang (Johor)
- Seremban (Negeri Sembilan)
- Kuching (Sarawak)
- Kota Samarahan (Sarawak)
A little bit of good news
Despite the sombre news, we do have some good news too.The National Security Council (MKN) announced that Penang is now a Green Zone, with no new active cases recorded for the past few days.
The little island now joins Kedah, Perlis, Kedah, Perak and Kelantan as the only states that are declared COVID-19 free.
Malaysia now has a total of 111 Green Zones (yay!).
