The differently-abled community is not forgotten in the race to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

To help them get vaccinated, the Ministry of Health has devised a plan for them.

Drive-through vaccination center in Selangor

On Wednesday (2 June), the Ministry of Health confirmed that a drive-through vaccination centre specifically catered for people with disabilities and their carers is set to begin operating next week.

According to a report by Malay Mail, the drive-through vaccination center, which is an initiative between the MOH and OKU Central non-governmental organisation, will be located at the Sime Darby Plantations headquarters in Ara Damansara, Selangor.

An MOH official told the news portal that the centre will be offering vaccination to people with disabilities aged 18 and over residing in the Klang Valley, regardless of whether they were registered under the Social Welfare Department (JKM) or not.

Their carers driving them to the centre will also be able to get vaccinated on a voluntary basis.

The report said that the Ministry of Science Technology and Information will make an official announcement on the centre soon.

Mobile vaccination trucks rolling out soon

On top of the drive-through vaccination center, the government will also be mobilising mobile vaccination trucks soon.

National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin told The Star Online that the government will mobilise 30 vaccination trucks in areas around Kuala Lumpur with a high population density.

Each mobile truck is capable of administering 100 doses of vaccination, he added.

“The outreach programme for vaccination using mobile trucks will go to areas such as PPR housing areas and construction sites which are still operating during the total lockdown period, ” he was quoted as saying.

While Khairy did not mention when exactly these mobile vaccinationation trucks will be deployed, he did, however, said has discussed the matter with Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
