Lim joined 2,000 others from all over the world to compete against each other to win the Lunar Loo Challenge.
The challenge was to come up with "novel design concepts for compact toilets that can operate in both microgravity and lunar gravity."
Lim may not be one of the three winners, but his design got the 'Honorable Mention' alongside another participant.
Love for engineering helped fuel his ideas
Free Malaysia Today (FMT) reported that Lim is an engineer with a love affair with anything engineering since he was a kid.
“I’ve had a passion for engineering since I was a young boy. If you were to ask my parents, they would have loads of stories to tell on how I used to dismantle household appliances.
“Mind you, these were rather expensive appliances. You name it, the VCR player, record player, vacuum cleaner, weighing machines, bicycles and even fans,” Lim reportedly told FMT.
Lim's interest was encouraged by his parents, who never stopped him from learning and experimenting.
As he became older, Lim also started being interested in space exploration.
He found out about NASA's challenge via the space agency's Facebook and decided to give it a try.
Lim said that participating in the challenge was his way of sharing his engineering experience and making the country proud.
