There's still some good in the world. With the barbaric 'Red Shirts' threatening the peaceful assembly of others and showing off inane 'silat' skills that become the laughing stock of the region, there is still some good happening in Malaysia, and it's made in Japan.

FamilyMart says "Ko-ni-chi-wa Malaysia!" as its first retail outlet opens its doors. There is a bakery section, a refrigerated goods section, a bento section, an array of sandwiches, a snack bar, a display of fried foods and steamers, and even pots of oden (or as we call it, lok-lok). There's desserts in the form of matcha and french vanilla soft serve too if you're in the mood.

There's an opening promotion of 25% off for selected foods and 50% off on the soft serve. You can also pay your bills there, manage parcels, and take advantage of their free Wi-Fi. If you do take advantage of their Wi-Fi, you can dine in at their seating area that comes with USB charging docks, plug points, and toilet amenities. How have we lived like savages this whole time? Have convenience stores been this good this whole time?! 99 Mart doesn't look so good now does it?

It's website www.familymart.com.my tells us that they've got a range of imported Japanese products. We're going to have to compare the prices at FamilyMart to Shojikiya and see if they're competitive. There is word that a second outlet will be coming soon and they are staffing. If you need a job, head to FamilyMart in Wisma Lim Foo Yong for a walk-in interview from 11am to 5pm. You may refer to their Facebook page for more information.
