Previously, we reported on a stray dog who had been ‘working’ alongside traffic police along a stretch of Jalan Parlimen in Kuala Lumpur.

The dog, affectionately known as Jon, had been showing up for work since 2024. No one knows where he came from, but every morning, as early as 7 AM, Jon would arrive at the intersections leading to Jalan Tugu and Bukit Aman, ready to start his day.

Jon’s story has since captivated Malaysians, with many videos showing him ‘working hard’ alongside the officers. He also won the hearts of motorists passing through the area, with some rewarding him with treats.

Jon is now officially retired

In an update, Jon has been rescued and is currently receiving veterinary care.

According to a report, the stray—now renamed Chase—was rescued by independent rescuer Shima Aris and her team last Sunday following a three-day operation.

Shima said that, during the operation, Chase proved to be an extremely friendly, curious, and intelligent dog.

“He actually came up and allowed us to pat him. But the moment he saw the leash, he ran away. It took some time to rebuild that trust.”

Upon examination by a veterinarian, Chase was found to have tick fever. He was also underweight for his age and had multiple wounds on his body.

“The priority is getting him back to health, and for cases of tick fever, it can take up to a month. Chase will be sent for neutering and vaccination, after which he will be taken home by me.

Only once he has fully recovered will he be put up for adoption,” Shima said.

Chase is estimated to be around four to five years old. As for why he was renamed ‘Chase’, Shima explained that the name was chosen because it matches that of a well-known police dog character from the Paw Patrol animated series.
