They keep reapperaring no matter how many times the authorities have fixed it, and in some areas, they don't even bother fixing the potholes.
A group of people in Bercham decided to take matters into their own hands.
Getting their hands dirty
According to a report by Malay Mail, the group made up of eight residents used cement, sand and pebbles to fill up all the potholes along Hala Bercham Timur 11.
The group managed to fix a whopping 20 potholes in four hours.
One of the residents, Phuah Tuck Jun, told the news portal that some of the potholes are very deep and could spell danger for motorists if they are not careful.
“Hence, the group, consisting of wage earners, took it upon themselves to repair the holes,” he was quoted as saying.
Phuah added that the group forked out RM1,000 of their own money to buy the materials needed to fix the potholes.
According to Phuah, the authorities did patch up the potholes before, but they appeared again after a few weeks.
Phuah hoped that the group's initiative will encourage other residents to attend to the potholes in their area rather than wait for authorities to do it.
Speaking of the authorities, an Ipoh City Council spokesman told the news portal that the authorities are planning to resurface the city’s roads soon, including the one that the residents had repaired.
