In conjunction with the BUDI95 initiative, which will take place on September 30 for all Malaysians, the government has announced that those with faulty MyKad chips can now get them replaced for free.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the replacements can be made at any JPN counter or office nationwide from now until October 7.

JPJ to extend weekend operating hours in support of BUDI95 initiative
As reported by Malay Mail, Saifuddin said the government will fully cover the cost to ensure that Malaysians’ access to subsidies under BUDI95 is not disrupted by faulty MyKad chips.
The BUDI95 programme also requires all Malaysians aged 16 and above to have a valid driving licence. To support this, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be extending operating hours for driving licence and related service counters nationwide.
According to a report by The Sun, the counters will be open on weekends from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli confirmed that the extended hours will begin this Saturday and remain in effect until October 26, 2025, at all JPJ state offices and branches.

For JPJ counters in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah, the extended hours will apply on Fridays and Saturdays. In other states, they will apply on Saturdays and Sundays.
“This initiative provides greater convenience and flexibility to the public, especially for those facing time constraints on weekdays for licence renewal,” he said.
For reference, those whose licence validity has not exceeded three years can renew them immediately via the MyJPJ app, MySikap portal, or kiosks, without visiting counters.
However, licence holders whose validity has lapsed for more than three years must re-sit the Driver Education Curriculum Part 2 and 3 tests at any driving institute.
