If an item used by a famous personality goes on auction, would you buy it?

We don’t know about you, but some people would fight tooth and nail for such items.

Here’s the proof.

A pair of gold-plated glasses worn by Indian independence hero Mahatma Gandhi has been sold in an auction in Britain for £260,000 (RM1,422,042).

“We found them just four weeks ago in our letterbox, left there by a gentleman whose uncle had been given them by Gandhi himself."

“An incredible result for an incredible item! Thanks to all those who bid,” wrote East Bristol Auctions on its Instagram page, as reported by AFP.

The report said Gandhi was known for giving out old or unwanted pairs to those in need or those who had helped him.

Iconic.

This particular pair of glasses, however, was said to have been given to the man’s uncle while he was working for British Petroleum in South Africa during the 1920s or 30s, said the auction house.

The original estimate of the sales for the glasses was around £15,000 (RM82,057.86).
