The cost of living in Malaysia is extremely painful on the average citizen’s wallet, with the recent viral story about a netizen who paid RM50 for only two bottles of milk, butter, and bread being a prime example. That being said, you may be looking for another job that pays more if you aren’t making enough dough. You may want to consider this vacancy for a roti canai maker with a salary of RM5,000 in a recent ad placed in the New Straits Times.

It read: Vacancy in S’pore. “Pembuat Roti Canai (Roti Canai Maker). Salary RM5,000 and above. Prayer room, accommodation, and meals provided. Please contact Whatsapp.”

According to the report, high demand for roti canai makers has led to recruiters placing ads in Malaysian papers. Interestingly, these job postings for skilled workers come with high salaries and no requirement for higher education certificates.

X users also took to the platform to share their hilarious thoughts about the ad:

Things to Consider Before You Get That Bread

However, the Restaurant and Bistro Owners Association vice-president in Malaysia Jeremy Lim warned that while the salary may appear lucrative, it may not afford a comfortable lifestyle overseas.

Speaking to NST, he said, "The salary offered is actually not luxurious and somehow challenging for the expat to make a living.

"Rental of a room alone can be anywhere from six hundred to eight hundred dollars. Then your daily expenses and travelling transport will cost you more."

"The offered salary may sound substantial in ringgit terms, but when converted to Singapore dollars and considering the cost of living on the island, it might not provide the desired quality of life.” However, note that the ad above includes accommodation and meals so it’s still a pretty decent offer.
