As most Malaysians are aware by now, the Good Vibes Festival 2023 became one of the most talked about music festivals in Malaysian history recently. This was due to The 1975’s Matty Healy kissing his bandmate onstage and ranting about the government’s stance on the LGBTQ+ community which led to the cancellation of the rest of the three-day festival.

Following the fiasco, the organisers of the Good Vibes Festival (GVF), Future Sound Asia (FSA) served a seven-day notice to the band, seeking approximately RM12.3 million in damages failing which, they will pursue legal proceedings in the Court of England.

FSA has also shared a statement on their Instagram page, pleading with concertgoers to donate their refunds to save the local music festival. “If you can spare or defer any amount of your refund, it would be greatly appreciated and goes a long way towards helping to #SaveGVF.”

The statement went on to say that the contribution would “greatly assist in the continuity of the festival and in compensation numerous affected parties” such as onsite food vendors, toilet suppliers, working crew, and many more.

Ticketholders were given four refund options to choose from:

Ticketgoers were asked to submit their refund request on their website from 14 August to 10 September 2023.

However, mixed reactions have poured in about the refund, with many commenting that the refund page on their website doesn’t work.

Others said they shouldn’t ask people to support them when Malaysian citizens are also facing economic issues. Some netizens, however, were in support of GVF, saying that the government was at fault for cancelling the festival.

Did you attend the festival? What do you think of the refund issue?
