The Government Plans To Review The Tourism Tax

malaysia.jpg
Remember the tourism tax that was implemented in September last year?

The government has decided to review whether it is necessary to keep the tourism tax.

According to Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, they need to revisit the current charges of RM10 per room per night imposed on foreign visitors who are staying in hotels or private accommodations.

The ministry will need to determine whether the fees are reasonable or too high because this may affect tourists from visiting Malaysia.

"If we have the tax too high, people will not want to visit the country, but if we impose a moderate tax or even an acceptable tax, more people will come," Mohamaddin told Bernama.

RM10 may not seem like much for developed countries with a stronger currency than Ringgit, but imagine those who decide to stay for a longer period of time.

Sikit-sikit, lama-lama jadi bukit.
Besides that, we've got more good news!

The ministry has also announced a competition to design a new logo for the Visit Malaysia Year campaign because, you know, this can't be it.

New Malaysia, new logo, please.
The logo will either be Visit Malaysia Year 2020 or another year, to be determined by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Knowing how creative Malaysians are, we know we'll be getting plenty of beautiful logos from this campaign.

Let's show 'em how it's done!
