Govt Looking Into Imposing Congestion Charges to Combat Traffic Jams

We all know how crazy the traffic jams are in KL, especially during peak hours and festive seasons.

In order to reduce congestion in the city, the government is reportedly looking into imposing congestion charges, which are fees that drivers need to pay to enter a city.

According to FMT, Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa, the initiative to ease peak-hour gridlock is being considered under the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Master Plan 2040.

In a Dewan Rakyat session, Dr Zaliha said the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research and Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation are currently studying how the congestion charge will impact road users and the public transport system.

It is reported that the study's findings will be presented to the Cabinet before any final decision is made.

“The goal is not to burden people but to make Kuala Lumpur a smoother, more efficient city for everyone,” she added.
