Being born and raised in Malaysia is considered a blessing as we are surrounded by a multi-cultural society, therefore we have access to a plethora of amazing food and cuisines.

And most of you hit the mamak shops every morning to get your teh tarik or Nescafe fix before starting your day.

Well you might want to start cutting down on your sugar intake or teh tariks as a recent study has revealed an alarming finding: Malaysia has the highest diabetes rate in Asia and one of the highest in the world.

Well, we're not THAT surprised to be honest.
National Diabetes Institute (Nadi) executive chairman Datuk Dr. Mustaffa Embong told Bernama that more than 2.5 million Malaysians above the age of 18 has the disease.

“(In addition, our records) suggest that almost half of Malaysians do not know that they have diabetes,” Mustaffa said.

Diabetes is often dubbed as a ‘silent killer’ because most of the time, those who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes don’t even know they have it until they develop a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, go blind or have to get their limb(s) amputated as the symptoms are rarely indicated.

So, it's really time to cut down on your sugar intake, guys!
