Traders and Malaysians rejoiced when the government announced that Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars would return after a year of absence, no thanks to COVID-19.

This meant that we are slowly going back to how things were pre-pandemic, while observing strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).

However, perhaps due to the overexcitement over the prospect of returning to normalcy, it looks like Malaysians are getting complacent.

Next COVID-19 wave?

The same scenario is also happening in Kepala Batas, Penang.
Photos and videos of the bazaars happening at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman have gone viral on Twitter.

A sea of humans can be seen crowding the bazaar and long lines were formed at the entrance.

While this meant good news for business owners, it may not mean necessarily so for our frontliners as social distancing was almost non-existent at the bazaar.

Netizens took to Twitter to voice out their opinions and said that they were disappointed seeing Malaysians risking their lives and also being part of the problem during the pandemic.

Some feared a new COVID-19 wave or cluster would be coming following their negligence.

Malaysia’s current COVID-19 cases have been high over the past few weeks, with cases consistently topping the 2,000 mark.

We cannot let out guard down as our battle against the deadly pandemic is far from over.

Always remember to wear a face mask correctly, practise social distancing, and frequently sanitise or wash your hands.
