How To Convert Your Malaysian Driving Licence to A Singaporean One Online
Are you a Malaysian heading south to Singapore to stay for more than a year? Don’t forget to convert your driving licence to a Singaporean one! This is because the prescribed period for the recognition of a foreign driving licence of a person (even one who is issued with a Work Pass in the country) is a maximum of six months.
While the process may be a hassle, you can now shorten the process by going through a part of the process online.
Since 14 July, Singapore’s Traffic Police (TP) has started a trial to allow holders of Malaysian driving licences to submit their application for the conversion of their driving licences online.
What You Will Need to Check Your Eligibility
The purpose is to reduce the waiting and transaction times at the TP headquarters (HQ) with checks on your eligibility criteria prior to physical visits.
1. Pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT) at a driving centre in Singapore
2. JPJ letter with details of classes, issue and expiry date of the licence that was obtained not more than six months’ prior
3. Letter of employment (for permit holders)
4. Possess a valid International Driving Permit (IDP)
5. Further documentation is required based on whether you are a Singaporean, New Citizen, Permanent Resident, or otherwise.
Submitting Your Application
- Submit this licence conversion form. Do note you’ll need a Singapore contact number to fill in the form.
- Submit supporting documents after receiving the relevant email from the TP.
- Receive a reply on the outcome within 10 working days. Do note that it will take longer than usual as they are receiving a higher than usual volume of applications.
- Visit the TP HQ with the previously submitted documents (both originals and photocopies) for verification before the conversion process can be finalised.
- Make payment of S$50.00 (approximately RM160).
- Receive a hardcopy Singapore driving licence within 10 working days. Alternatively, if you have a SingPass account, you can drive immediately using the Digital Driving Licence (DDL) by the next working day.
