The Chosen one, transport minister Anthony Loke recently announced that Malaysians can now renew their driving licences online for up to 10 years and even enjoy a 10% discount on the fee.

While they elaborated then that this initiative would only be available by heading physically to JPJ offices, we discovered that you can now also do this online. This is another initiative by the chosen one the government to make things more convenient for citizens by shifting applications online.

As stated previously, these initiatives are only applicable to Malaysians citizens, and not to foreigners who hold special passes such as the MyKAS card. This is also not applicable to those who have been blacklisted by the police, those who have existing restrictions imposed by the JPJ, or those who have been suspended due to a conviction or a court order. Also, if you don’t renew your expired licence within three years, you may have to resit the test to obtain your licence again.

Coincidentally, our own driving licence was about to expire and we tried this out ourselves and managed to get our licence renewed in under 10 minutes. Here’s how:

1. Visit JPJ’s MySikap digital platform.

2. Select your language option and click on the ‘Log In’ link under the ‘Sign in As A First Time User’ section at the bottom. First we filled in our details including our I.C number, email, phone number and the serial number on the back of your driving licence. Strangely, there wasn’t an option to enter your password and we had to click on ‘reset password and reset it using the TAC' number sent to our email before managing to log in.

3. After logging in and being directed to MySiakap’s home page, select the ‘Driving Licence’ tab

4. Then scroll down and click ‘Driving Licence Renewal’.

5. Then select your licence type (such as CDL - Competent Driving Licence) and the duration you want to renew it for (up to 10 years). Note it costs RM30 per year to renew your licence and that you will only enjoy the 10% discount if you select the 10 year duration and your total should be RM270.

6. Check that your information is correct and click ‘pay’. Choose your payment method whether you want to pay by credit card or internet banking.

7. After completing your payment, click on ‘print receipt’ and ‘print driving licence’ to keep a copy for safekeeping.

8. Once you’re done renewing your driving licence, you can read up about how you can get your e-Licence and e-Road Tax with the MyJPJ app.

It’s that simple. We hope this helps!
