When was the last time you checked your traffic summonses?

If your answer is six months ago or worse, never, then you better do it ASAP.

Some of us may be thinking, “What’s the harm of a couple of unpaid summonses?” or “I’ll just do it later”. Well, make sure that “later” doesn’t drag on much longer because you could be getting yourself into a big legal mess next year.

In a news report by Bernama, motorists who have not settled their summonses under the Automated Awareness Safety (AWAS) System issued from May this year could face court action beginning early 2018.

You can run, but you can't hide.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi reportedly said that the Road Transport Department (RTD) will summon all traffic offenders under the demerit system to court.

At the moment, the compound for regular summonses is set at RM150. But once your case is brought to court, the minimum fine will double to RM300.

Aziz urged AWAS offenders to settle their summonses because once the ministry takes action, said offenders will have roughly one month to settle their compounds before they get called to court, as reported by New Straits Times.

So to all you reckless drivers out there, you know what to do before the year ends!
