We've all been there: wake up at 6am, go stand in line for one hour and then finally get your passport eight hours later.

The government knows the struggle we all go through, so they've decided to extend the working hours for Federal Government Departments.

According to The Star Online, the departments will now open from 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays. Previously, they close at 5.30pm.

Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman told the news portal that the move to extend the hours is to improve the public delivery system as well as to give a little bit more flexibility to civil servants.

With the change of timing, Zainal said employees working with these departments will now be divided into four shifts: 7.30am to 4.30pm, 8am to 5pm, 8.30am to 5.30pm and 9am to 6pm.

Longer waiting hours? Nice!
The federal departments in states such as Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Melaka, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur will now open their doors from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

In Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor, the operating hours for the departments are 7.30am to 6pm from Sunday to Wednesday, and 7.30am to 4.30pm on Thursday.

So....does that mean their tea time break will be longer too?
