In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia is planning to cut down the number of public holidays in the country.

According to a report by Mashable SEA, the country has already slashed several public holidays and is now planning to cut them down even further.

Quoting Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, the report said that the consideration is being made to prevent high infection numbers.

Less cuti to curb rising COVID-19 numbers

He said the decision would be made soon.

Prior to this, the nation cut down the number of collective leave or ‘cuti bersama’, which is additional holidays that supplement major national holidays, from seven to just two.

Lesser holidays equals to less moving around.
The two were on May 12, which is Hari Raya Aidilfitri eve and December 24, which is Christmas eve, respectively.

Malaysians should thank their lucky stars that our public holidays were not taken away due to the pandemic!
