Indonesian Couple Make Transparent Masks To Protect The Deaf And Still Allow Lip-Reading
Have we ever stopped for a moment to think how difficult it would be for deaf people lto ip-read and communicate while wearing face masks?
It's probably a really frustrating time for this group during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Understanding the issue, an Indonesian couple decided to take action and find a way to solve it.

AFP reported that the husband and wife from Makassar in Sulawesi island started producing cloth masks with a transparent middle to help people from the deaf community.
“Since the pandemic started, everyone is wearing face masks. For deaf people, we can’t understand what others are saying because we can’t read their lips.
“There were a lot of misunderstandings,” said 52-year-old Faizah Badaruddin.
The couple, who runs a small sewing business now focusses on making these unique masks.
The masks are sold between 10,000 rupiah and 15,000 rupiah (RM2.80 to RM4.20) each.
