Many students can attest that exam invigilators are a scary lot.

However, civil service candidates in Surabaya, East Java who recently sat for their entrance exam to join the Ministry of Law and Human Rights had the fear factor turned up a notch when their exam invigilators turned up in Squid Game costumes.

Scary yet kinda cool

The exam invigilators came complete with red jumpsuits, black masks and even carried toy guns. They didn’t stop there. The background music of the serial also accompanied the soldiers when they approached the candidates.

Creepy!

Although we doubt that those sitting for the exam would have been relaxed at the sight of the armed, masked exam invigilators, that was exactly the purpose of the whole set up.

"We want to make the participants more relaxed and happy," said the head of the Ministry's office in Surabaya, Krisnomo on Twitter.

Krismono also made comparisons between the exam and the actual effort it took to win the various children's game in the Netflix series, saying the candidates had to go through a lot obstacles in order to get the 'reward', which in this case would be a civil servant position at the ministry.

Well, the scary set up would have definitely refrained the candidates from cheating!
