Influencer Ms Puiyi Wins RM4.3 Million Suit Against Former Manager Who Cheated & Misled Her
The High Court has just awarded Malaysian social media influencer Siew Pui Yi a judgment in default of RM4.3 million.
The model, DJ, and actress popularly known as MsPuiYi said the defendant, Lai Kai Jian, also known as Mentos Lai, failed to make any court appearance or file documents in response to the suit against him.
“Therefore, my solicitor has filed a judgment in default (JID) against Mentos on July 26, and we have successfully obtained the judgment in default for the amount of RM4.3 million,” she said in a press conference.
Her lawyer, K. Mahendren, said the High Court awarded the JID on the same day they filed for it and that they followed all required procedures to deliver the writ of summons to Lai, including sending it via registered post, posting notices at his registered residence and publishing it in two newspapers.

“We have complied with all procedures, and he failed to make an appearance or file documents in response, so we applied for the JID,” he said.
A couple of months ago, Pui Yi filed a civil suit against her former business partner for allegedly cheating her of RM4.3 million between 2022 and 2023.
In 2019, she met Mentos through a mutual friend and was told that he was an integrity-minded person and that she could trust him as a business partner. Even though the man had some questionable qualities, she decided to trust him as a director of her company, PY Empire Sdn Bhd.
She said she initiated the civil action as he had allegedly cheated and deceived her into handing over approximately RM4.3 million to resolve her company’s and her personal income tax issues.

"I have trusted him and handed him the amount of money. Next, I found that he did not solve my income tax problem. Due to the actions of Mentos, I have suffered losses," she said.
She lodged a police report against him on October 24 last year, and police investigations are still underway.
According to Mahendren, the police have visited Lai’s residence in Kuala Lumpur several times and have been unable to locate him.
