It is a well-known fact that the cure for the COVID-19 as not been found yet.

Researchers all over the world are trying to find a cure and Japanese researchers are also doing their part too.

According to a report in Nikkei Asian Review, Kyushu University professor Takahiro Kusakabe and his team are working to develop a unique vaccine using silkworms.

The project’s belief is that each of the worms can manufacture a type of protein to serve as the key material for vaccine production for them to create an oral vaccine.

Human testing soon?

If successful, the team plan to start clinical testing on humans in 2021.

The report said the team is working with 250,000 silkworms in about 500 different phylogenies (family lines).

The mechanism of the project is simple (to them scientists la, to us, it's complicated).

The research takes the genes from the protein that forms the outer "spikes" of the coronavirus and incorporate it into the virus before injecting it into a silkworm.

After four days, spike proteins that can serve as vaccine material start to be produced in large quantities in the silkworms.

These spike proteins are removed, refined and made into a vaccine that is administered via injection.

Let’s hope that this team finds something substantial to save us from the current outbreak!
