Over the weekend, news surfaced that hundreds of teachers in Johor have declined to receive COVID-19 vaccination.

According to The Star, state education, information, heritage and culture committee chairman Mazlan Bujang had announced that 779 teachers have said they will not get the vaccines.

That's a really high number!

However, Mazlan had also said that state Education Department will reach out to the teachers to convince them to get vaccinated especially since schools will reopen in October.

TMJ to step in

Responding to reports of teachers refusing vaccination, Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim (better known as TMJ) tweeted that he will be meeting with state Education Department director and the teachers to discuss the matter.

"Our focus now is to overcome the pandemic as soon as possible so the people, state can go back to living normal lives," he tweeted.

In an update to his earlier tweet, TMJ confirmed his meeting with the department director and teachers will be this Friday (27 August 2021) and he will be joined by Johor Mufti as well as Johor state secretary.

Let's hope the prince as well as other involved will be able to convince the teachers to get vaccinated for the safety of the students!
