Very severe punishment
This is because the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has warned that motorists who commit tint offences will be issued a summons for each glass panel that flouts the law, Harian Metro reports.Basically, that means that you could possibly get more than one summons if you get stopped by the authorities.
"For example, if the driver commits three misdemeanors, having tint levels beyond that allowed by the law for the driver’s side window, the front passenger side window and the windshield, three summonses will be issued to the driver," Terengganu JPJ director Zulkarnain Yasin explained.
That's not the end of the punishment, though.The summonses will also be issued to the owner of the vehicle even if the car is being driven by another person during the time of the offence.
“If the driver is not the owner of the vehicle, then the owner will also be penalised, making for six summonses in all, three for the driver and three for the owner,” Zulkarnain added.
That is really nasty.
Know the limit
Under the current regulations, the front windscreen and front side windows must have a minimum visible light transmission (VLT) of 70 per cent and 50 per cent respectively, while the rear side windows and rear windscreen are not restricted.
However, the government had previously said that a fee will soon be imposed on those seeking to have vehicle window tints above the permissible limit.
Before you guys break your bank to tint your windows the colour of your soul, please note that the exemptions will only be given to vehicle owners with medical conditions.
