If you don't think it is, a report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) couldn’t agree more.
This is because with 66.3 points, Kuala Lumpur was ranked 35th out of 60 cities in the world, according to the EIU’s Safe Cities Index.
Last year, Kuala Lumpur was ranked 31st in the same report, with 73.11 points.
According to a report by Malay Mail, the top three safest city in the list were Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka.
The index reviews more than 50 qualitative and quantitative indicators in four categories of security including digital, infrastructure, health and personal.
This year, ten new indicators were added, of which eight are related to environmental resilience.
EIU senior editor Naka Kondo said that the research shows that a city's region does not have any statistically significant relationship with their performance.
“Although Asia-Pasific (APAC) cities such as Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka continue to rank within the top three cities in the Index, the region also hosts some of the lowest-scoring cities in the world, with Yangon, Karachi and Dhaka close to the bottom of the list.
“APAC cities perform well across the categories of health security, infrastructure security and personal security, but their North American counterparts generally fare better in digital security, accounting for seven of the top 10 cities in this category,” she said.
Six cities in the Asia Pacific apart from Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka, moved into the top 10 in the index this year including Sydney which was ranked fifth, Seoul which was ranked eighth and Melbourne, which was ranked tenth.
