In a lengthy Facebook post, a man named Nurul shared his story about how his wedding day turned into a heartbreak when he found out that his alleged fiancée was actually a married woman with two children.

Nurul said that he first met the woman Nur in 2021 and knew her intimately to the point that they knew each other’s parents (he only knew her father as her mother had already passed away). The woman had even spent many holidays in Kuching, his hometown with him. On 12 October 2022, they had even gone through an engagement ceremony in Kuching at his sister-in-law’s house at the request of her father.

The day which was supposed to be the happiest day of his life instead turned into a nightmare. They were supposed to go through with their marriage vows (akad nikah) and ceremony (persandingan) on 10 and 11 November 2023 with the latter to be held in Matu at the bride’s house.

On 9 November 2023, their groom’s party from Kuching left at 6.00 am and reached Daro around 5.00 pm. As soon as he reached Daro, they headed for the homestay house which had been booked by the bride for 22 of them with a total of one van and 3 cars.

However, Nurul was taken aback when the owner of the homestay said that they had not received any bookings for the date. Nurul desperately tried to call Nur numerous times but did not receive any response.

Out of exhaustion, he was forced to use his own money for the homestay and other expenses which were supposed to be taken of by the bride. On top of that, Nurul had told his mother that everything had been prepared and all that was left to do was to show up.

Nurul started to feel that something was not quite right as his fiancée had arranged everything but tried to think positively. He then rested and prepared what was needed for the following day’s ceremony.

A Barefaced Liar

On 10 November, the supposed day of the akad nikah ceremony, Nurul headed to the given address with his party of 21 people along with the dowry. As soon as he arrived, he felt that something was off as no one was there to receive them and the place was completely empty. There weren’t any preparations for the ceremony at all.

Nurul tried to call the bride-to-be and her father multiple times but to no avail. In fact, after he sent Whatsapp messages to his future father-in-law multiple times, he found that he was blocked. The address was right but there was nobody home.

Nurul decided to speak to the next-door neighbour who turned out to be the aunt of the bride-to-be. He was then astounded to find out that Nur had even lied about her name which was actually Normahaini.

Worst of all, Nurul found out that the woman was already married and had two children. Her father had been an accomplice in the affair as he had not been honest from the beginning. Nurul could not comprehend why a father would allow his daughter to be engaged when she was already married to another man.

Nurul said that he experienced a mixed bag of emotions including being speechless, disappointed, angry, and sad. In the affair, he had wasted money on the cost of the wedding preparations, duit hantaran (a cash gift to the bride’s family usually ranging from RM5k-RM15k), and his family’s reputation had been tarnished from embarrassment as they had come from far and felt cheated.

Nurul and his family decided to go to the police station to make a report. He elaborated that he mustered up the courage to write the post as he had never expected such a thing to happen. He said that she had embarrassed him and his family.

On top of that, he revealed that she was working as a uniformed member of a government agency. He pleaded for the agency to take firm action against her as it was possible that she was carrying out illicit activities against the agency as she was so daring.

He ended by saying “See you in court” and said that there were many other things that she had lied about that he wasn’t able to write about on Facebook. He also hoped that others would learn a lesson from his horrible experience.

Sounds like something out of a movie! Our hearts really go out to him and the heartache that he has gone through. We wouldn’t wish this on our own enemy. *sobs*
