Local Nasi Kandar Restaurant Creates Unique Rice Sculpture for Tun M's 100th Birthday
Yesterday (July 10) marked the 100th birthday of former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Tun M).
While many Malaysians took the opportunity to send birthday wishes to Tun M on social media, one local nasi kandar restaurant chose to pay tribute in a uniquely creative way.

In a Facebook post, the restaurant, Nasi Kandar Sulaiman, carefully stacked white rice to form the number ‘100’, symbolising Tun M’s age this year.
The rice sculpture was later drenched in curry and topped with two salted egg halves, along with four and seven green chillies.
According to the restaurant, the chillies represent Tun M’s time as Malaysia’s 4th and 7th Prime Minister.

They also noted that Tun M is likely the only former PM to reach this remarkable milestone, and they wished him blessings on his birthday.
The post has since garnered attention from many local social media users, who praised the restaurant for its creativity.
For context, Tun M was born in 1925 in Alor Setar, Kedah. He served as Malaysia’s 4th Prime Minister from 1981 to 2003. In 2018, he was elected again, becoming the 7th Prime Minister and the only individual to have held the position twice, with the longest cumulative tenure.

Tun M studied at King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore, where he met Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, also a medical student. The couple married in 1956 in a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur.
