Malaysians eager to move

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) said that more than 100,000 Malaysians have applied for an interstate permit via the Gerak Malaysia app ever since it was made available on 26 April (Sunday).

In fact, they also revealed that they have received more than 300,000 registrations on the app barely 12 hours after its launch.

PDRM released the info via their official Facebook page on Monday (27 April).

However, PDRM expects the number to continually increase all the way until 1 May, the first day Malaysians were supposedly allowed to travel back to the city.

As such, PDRM said in the statement that they will continue to observe and approve the applications before advising the government on the mandated travel dates.

Initially, PDRM announced that Malaysians who are stuck in their hometowns after the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced on 18 March would be able to apply for an interstate permit and travel between 1 to 3 May.

However, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob told The Sun that the above mentioned travel dates have not been confirmed nor approved yet.

“Actually, the application (for interstate travel) through appointment at the police station can be made until May 1.

“Registration can also be made through the Gerak Malaysia application and those who unable to apply online can do so at the nearest police station,“ he was quoted as saying.
