213 passengers were injured and a handful of them sustained serious injuries that required them to be sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Wong Chee Foong was one of them and he’s currently in critical condition.
Million-ringgit lawsuit
According to the Malay Mail, the family of the father of four is suing Prasarana Malaysia Berhad for a total of RM1.8 million for damages and negligence.
Following the accident, Wong reportedly sustained serious head, face and spinal injuries in the crash and is currently undergoing multiple surgeries and treatments.
He has yet to regain consciousness.
According to the family’s lawyer, Jazzmine Khoo, the claim would consist of medical expenses, physical damage, mental and emotional stress, trauma, loss of income, special and general damages and for the negligence caused.
“On May 24, the unfortunate day of the accident, the victim was returning home from work whereby he boarded the train from KLCC station and was supposed to exit at Masjid Jamek station for train interchange to Cheras.”
He is the sole breadwinner of the family.
Prasarana stayed mum
Jazzmine added that Prasarana had failed to reach out to the victim’s family, let alone offer an apology to them.The family hopes that the company will respond to their letter soon and come forward for an amicable and more justified settlement proposal.
Prasarana has previously offered to compensate the victims RM1,000 each and even cover their medical costs and loss of income (if any), which subsequently caused anger among netizens as the amount given felt like an insult compared to what they had to endure.

The company also recently put out a notice, asking the remaining 77 victims who have yet to come forward to give their details for the purpose of compensation.
We wonder if many more victims will come forward with such lawsuits. Only time will tell.
