If you want to become world beaters, you gotta start them young.

Thankfully, we have three bright, young men that would one day change the world for the better.

A device that could help control deforestation

Three students from SMK Chukai, Kemaman, Terengganu have made the country proud by coming out tops in the 'Do Your: Bit Challenge' competition for the Asia-Pacific region, Bernama reported.

The trio -- Ahmad Nasharuddin Anua, Mifzal Haziq Mazelan and Muhammad Amiruddin Amar -- were named champions for inventing a device that can be used to analyse the percentage of oxygen in forests.

The students received guidance from two teachers, Febing Ayu Marjohan and Irfah Hafizah Ahmad, as well as two mentors from TATI University College - Assoc Professor Dr Ruzlaini Ghoni and Dr Khairudin Ali - to come up with the invention.

The competition was organised by Micro:bit Educational Foundation to encourage young people to come up with innovations using the "micro:bit" with elements of coding.

Ahmad Nasharuddin told Bernama that his group, which is called Erfinder, invented the device to track oxygen levels during logging activities.

He explained that there were two devices: one placed in the forest and the other placed in an interconnected control room to send out oxygen readings periodically for monitoring purposes.

"This device is cheaper, easier and more practical than the use of satellite images. Our innovation is a new mechanism to ensure the balance of the ecosystem and ensure a healthier life for humans and the environment.

"The invention will help efforts in controlling deforestation," he was quoted as saying.

Congratulations to our young champs! We can't wait to see your device being widely used around the world.
