There are no shortages when it comes to talented artists in Malaysia:

And one of them just made Malaysia extremely proud.

Big win for a talented girl

Malaysian comic artist Erica Eng has won the much-coveted Eisner Award for comics.

The 21-year-old revealed the awesome news via a tweet on her Twitter profile @paprikapeprica on Saturday (25 July):

The Eisner Award -- the comic industry's equivalent of the Oscar Awards -- was awarded to Eng's Fried Rice webcomic, which follows a young girl named Min from Batu Pahat, Johor who visits her cousin in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur while applying to an art school in New York.

On top of thanking her parents, her family and her friends for her success, Eng also said that she couldn't have done it without the support of her fellow Malaysians.

“And thank you to my Malaysian brothers and sisters who’ve inspired me with your lives to set this story in our own beautiful country,” she wrote.

Such a cute comic, kan?
Eng became only the third Malaysian artist to receive an Eisner nomination, after Seremban-born (now based in Singapore) Sonny Liew received six nominations for his acclaimed graphic novel 'The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye'.

In 2018, Reimena Yee got a nod for her graphic novel 'The Carpet Merchant Of Konstantiniyya'.

Well done, Erica Eng! We would love to see more award-winning comic strips from you.
