Music is so powerful.

Good music can bring cheer and joy.

In an attempt to do just that, a Malaysian singer, songwriter and pastor has been performing songs for her neighbours on lockdown in London every Sunday afternoon.

The Star reported that Amy Tan, 35 said music was her way to reach out to the elderly and the vulnerable who had to self-isolate after Britain declared a lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 23.

Tan started with sending songs via WhatsApp to the neighbourhood WhatsApp group.

A weekly event

“But sometime before Easter Sunday, instead of sending the usual recorded songs, I thought I should sing a few songs for my neighbours in front of my house.

“They liked it and kept requesting for more.

“Quite a number of people came out to their gardens to listen and some were dancing,” she said.

Since then Tan has been singing at 2pm every Sunday after completing her online church service.

“I cover all kinds of selection, including worship songs, due to my experience as a professional singer and worship leader in Malaysia,” said Tan who moved to Britain three years ago.

On plans for the future, Tan said that she was organising an online project with 150 singers and musicians soon.
