Man Arrested for Disturbing Turtle Laying Eggs at Cherating
A man has been arrested for allegedly disturbing a turtle that was laying eggs at the Turtle Conservation and Information Centre in Cherating.
Acting Kuantan District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud, said the 51-year-old suspect was detained in the Cherating area, and authorities are currently tracking down two other individuals involved.

"The suspect also tested positive for drugs," he said in a statement.
He stated that the incident is believed to have occurred around 7 am and was recorded by several tourists. The footage shows three men lifting a turtle and moving it to a pre-dug nesting hole.
"Initial investigations suggest the suspect acted in this manner to hasten the egg-laying process, with the intention of collecting the turtle eggs for illegal sale or use."
"After their actions were noticed and reprimanded by several visitors, the suspect released the turtle back into the sea," he added.

Mohd Adli said the case will be investigated by the Malaysian Fisheries Department under Section 27 of the Fisheries Act 1985, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 for offenses involving the capture, disturbance, or collection of turtles without permission. It will also be investigated under the Pahang State Wildlife Conservation Enactment, which prohibits possession of turtle eggs without a valid permit.
He also urged the public not to engage in activities that threaten the survival of marine animals and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
