When push comes to shove, people will do everything they can to balik kampung.

An Indonesian man, who desperately wanted to go back to his home country but had no means to do so, decided to trespass into the Penang International Airport before hiding in a cargo airplane’s landing gear (or wheel well area) to hitch a free ride back.

However, according to Astro Awani, his sneaky attempt failed after a technician doing maintenance works on the plane discovered the 39-year-old man’s hiding spot around 9.58am on Monday.

Penang Airport security be like...
Southwest district deputy police chief DSP Jefri Md Zain told the news portal that the technician proceeded to inform the security control team for further action.

The man was later arrested by the police for trespassing into a prohibited area.

Jefri said upon investigation, it was learnt that man has just wanted to go back to Medan, Indonesia, but couldn’t afford the flight ticket as his employer didn’t pay his salary for two months.

Jaffri added the man entered the prohibited area through a hole in a fence near the Permatang Damar Laut cemetery, which led to runway where the plane was parked.

He is being investigated under Section 7 of the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959.
