This man was proof of the saying, and along the way, he warmed the hearts of netizens who came accross his story.
A heart-warming story
An image showing the Palestinian man sitting on a ledge of a hospital to keep an eye out on his mom has touched the hearts of netizens all around the world.
According to a report by Astro Awani, the man's elderly mother was hospitalised in the Hebron State Hospital in Palestine after she tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to restrictions, the man named Jihad Al-Suwaiti was prohibited from visiting his mother.
However, that didn't stop Jihad, reportedly the youngest child, from scaling the hospital wall and sitting on the ledge every day to keep watch over her sick mother.
His mother was also reportedly suffering from leukaemia.
Unfortunately, there was no happy ending to the story, as the elderly woman reportedly succumbed to her illnesses.
But there's a silver lining to the story though, as Al Jazeera posted a series of photos showing Jihad managed to see his mother in her room before she passed away:
The man's story tugged at the heartstrings of netizens, with a Twitter user paying tribute to the man and his mother through a beautiful drawing:
Others could just offer their sympathies and share the man's heartbreak:The son of a Palestinian woman who was infected with COVID-19 climbed up to her hospital room to sit and see his mother every night until she passed away. pic.twitter.com/31wCCNYPbs

Can this become any more sad when we are only able to comfort our loved ones through a window, phone or tablet? Then I am also so thankful that we can even do that. She saw her son’s face one last time - I pray she is in peace now.?

This is so heartbreaking. I can’t imagine the pain. Think about your families before you step out every day during this pandemic, and if you live alone then think about other people’s families.

My heart is full reading this. Lost my Mom (not to COVID) just before lockdown. Had she not died, I'd have certainly driven 2 1/2 hours to stand outside her window at her LTC residence, just so she could see I was there. This young man personifies the definition of a good son.

This made me shed a tear. Lost my mum in 2014 and life hasn’t been the same.

I don’t celebrate my birthday because hers is just 9days before mine. The feeling of not hearing her voice anymore is totally devastating.
Love and light to everyone who has lost a parent.
She must of been a wonderful mother to have raised such a devoted son. Blessings on them both. Rest In Peace, dear lady.

It’s absolutely heart breaking and yet I derive so much strength from this. Huge inspiration during these difficult times. May the mom rest in peace and May God bless that sweet son of hers.

Had to punch a brick, to feel like a man again.
