Time and again, Malaysians were told not to travel home during Hari Raya but some chose to ignore this.

Despite the movement control order (MCO,) ban on crossing state and district borders, as well as other measures set by the government, thousands still found ways to balik kampung.

Unfortunately, the triumph that came from hoodwinking the authorities didn't last long for some as they ended up getting infected with COVID-19 and spreading it to their loved ones.

12 clusters detected, more expected

According to several charts by BFM, the Health Ministry had detected 12 cluster related to Hari Raya as of 25 May; two weeks after the first day of the celebrations.

The ministry is expecting more cases in the near future.

So far, the clusters have been found in seven states, involving 470 people.

33.33 per cent of the cases were recorded in Sabah; 16.67 per cent of cases recorded both in Labuan and Kelantan; and 8.33 per cent of cases were recorded in Selangor, Sarawak, Pulau Pinang, and Pahang.

The Star reported that one person from Jalan Tahir Manan cluster in Selangor passed away, while two cases from the Simpang Sahari cluster in Labuan are currently in the intensive care unit.

Despite all the measures, Malaysians still managed to balik kampung.
While it is perfectly acceptable to be angry at the government for practicing double standards, having confusing SOPs and all the other mistake it has made, it is not at all okay to stop being a responsible citizen.

Please stay at home as much as possible, continue following SOPs and sign up for vaccination if you haven't already. We have to work together as a society to beat the virus or this pandemic will never end.
