M'sian Billionaire & Founder of Astro Malaysia Holdings, Ananda Krishnan, Has Passed Away at 86

Chairman of Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, Ananda Krishnan Tatparanandam, passed away today (November 28) at 86.

The investment holding company confirmed the matter in a statement. "With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our Chairman (Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd), Ananda Krishnan Tatparanandam. He breathed his last on November 28, 2024."

According to the statement, his contributions to national development and the corporate world throughout his life were immense.

"His philanthropy also left a lasting impact and memory, making him a respected and honoured figure," the statement continued, requesting that the public respect his family's privacy during this mourning period.

Ananda Krishnan founded Malaysia's second-largest mobile operator, Maxis Berhad, and the broadcasting and media company Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd.

He also held a significant stake in the oilfield services provider Bumi Armada Bhd through Objektif Bersatu Sdn Bhd.

In April, Forbes magazine listed Ananda Krishnan as the third richest individual in Malaysia with a net worth of $5.1 billion (RM22.66 billion), after hotel and real estate tycoon Robert Kuok and Quek Leng Chan of Hong Leong.
