M'sian Mee Bandung Ranks 5th on World's Top 100 Noodles List
International food website TasteAtlas has recently released its Global Top 100 Noodle Dishes rankings. While Malaysia may not have clinched the top spot, the country proudly secured eight entries on the list an impressive feat that highlights the richness of our local culinary heritage.
At the forefront is Mee Bandung from Muar, Johor, which has been ranked as the 5th best noodle dish in the world.
According to TasteAtlas, Mee Bandung which was rated 4.6 stars, features yellow noodles drenched in a thick, spicy sauce made from chilies, onions, shrimp paste, and dried shrimp. The dish is typically topped with a variety of condiments, including boiled eggs, shrimp, fish cakes, vegetables, and occasionally beef.
The site also notes that the term ‘bandung’ roughly translates to ‘mixed’ or ‘paired’, and is not related to the Indonesian city of the same name.

Another Malaysian favourite that made the list is Laksam, which ranks 26th with a 4.4-star rating. Traditionally associated with Malaysia’s East Coast, Laksam consists of rolled rice noodles served in a creamy fish-based broth, often accompanied by fresh vegetables and a side of spicy sambal for an extra kick.
