The New Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia To Sell Cheaper 'Branded' Products

If you can't convince them, join them.

Do you guys remember something called the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M)? If you guys didn't hear, the KR1M stores around the country have closed down.
One of the main reasons for the closure, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, is that Malaysians prefer to buy products from famous brands compared to KR1M-branded ones.
So what did he do about it?
He launched a KR1M 2.0 to sell cheaper 'branded' products, that's what!
The PM made the announcement at an event held at the TMG Mall in Temerloh on Sunday, The Star Online reported.
According to Najib, consumers will be able to find more than 50 'branded' household items at the store for a cheaper price.
For instance, a 1kg packet of Milo (speaking of which, we asked a dietitian to see if Milo is healthy to drink after the whole 40 per cent sugar fiasco. You can read about it here) will be sold at the price of RM17.80, compared to the outside price of RM17.99.
Not only that, four essential household items - flour, rice, cooking oil and sugar - will be sold at a more competitive price at the KR1M 2.0, said Najib.
One major difference with the KR1M this time around is that there won't be any stand-alone stores as it will be located within the premises of KR1M 2.0 partners.
At the moment, Najib said 51 KR1M 2.0 stores are already operational, and the government's goal is to have 3,000 outlets nationwide by 2021.
What do you think guys? Will you be shopping at KR1M 2.0, or you're too atas for that?
