Remember how we were telling you guys that there is no rush to get your car tinted because the government will be announcing new regulations on vehicle window tints soon?

Well, you need to keep your eyes and ears peeled because the new ruling on tinted windows for vehicles will be announced on Tuesday (7 May).

Transport Minister Anthony Loke told Astro Awani that he will be announcing the new rules after a meeting with the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Loke added those who want to be exempted from the new ruling must obtain authorisation from the JPJ director-general.

However, the exemption will only be considered on the grounds of health or safety, and additional charges will be imposed for the exemption.

Last November, Loke has said that there will be a new policy on tinted windows for vehicles as the guidelines had been changed several times by the previous government.

Currently the regulations under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules, 1991 (amended 5 February 2016) state that permissible VLT levels are 70 per cent for the front windscreen, 50 per cent for front side windows and 30 per cent for rear side windows and rear screen.
