We’re only a few hours away from 2020 and although the new year may seem exciting, we have some not so exciting news for your pockets.

According to Bernama, Netflix subscribers will have to pay extra for their subscription fees starting 9 January.

The new revised pricings are RM35 for the Basic plan (up from RM33), RM45 for the Standard plan (up from RM42), and RM55 for the Premium plan (up from RM51).

However, the mobile-only plan will still remain at RM17...for now.

Mobile subscribers need not worry about the price hike.
The new tariff is part of the new six per cent digital tax introduced by the government, which will officially kick start in January 2020.

“This is the first time we increased the price since its launch in January 2016, so come January 2020, that should be four years,” Netflix head of communications for South-East Asia, Leigh Wong, told Bernama.

"Existing Netflix subscribers will be notified from 9 January onwards on a rolling basis. Users will get at least a one-month notice about the price change.”

Besides Netflix, other digital services subjected to the tax are Google G Suite, Facebook ads, Sony PlayStation Store, and many more.

Looks like we’d have to buckle up next year since our bills would also increase significantly.
