Malaysians will no longer be allowed to travel across state borders, thanks to a few who chose to abuse the leeway given by the government.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, during a press conference on Thursday (21 May), said that the decision was made at a special meeting by the National Security Council following cases of people queuing up outside police stations to obtain permission to cross state borders.

Don't bother trying to get an approval

Ismail Sabri said that it does not make sense for over 1,300 people to have emergencies on the same day, as seen in Kuantan on Wednesday (20 May).

"The 1,300 people who queued up in Kuantan... it's not possible all of them had a death in the family. Even the police will think it's not logical.

"With the social distancing, it's (the queue) is so long. They are willing to stand in the heat for so long thinking that they should just give it a try.

"After this, no more. So, you don't have to go to the police station. OK," he added.

Answering a reporter's question about a man who shared on social media that he managed to cross state borders without encountering any police blocks, Ismail Sabri warned the public that such actions could lead to them being arrested.

He also reminded the public that just because they managed to avoid being caught heading to their villages, it doesn't mean they will be safe returning to the city.

We'd also like to remind our readers that just because we've been safe from COVID-19 so far, that doesn't mean we will be safe forever if we don't take the necessary precautions.
