Veveonah Mosibin, the spunky 18-year-old student who resorted to climbing a tree to get stable internet for her online exams is thrilled that The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is looking at improving internet connection at her kampung in Sabah.



"I'm happy and I'm touched that some parties are taking action to improve the infrastructure in our village, especially internet connectivity."

"I am also very grateful that the population at my village will be able to enjoy better internet and not miss out when it comes to ICT," she said in a brief WhatsApp conversation with Rojak Daily.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know, after Veveonah's story went viral, officials from MCMC announced that they would upgrade the infrastructure at Kampung Sapatalang, Pitas in Sabah where she lives.

Improved internet connection soon

According to a statement, MCMC said that it currently had a telecommunication tower that allowed for 3G connection about 1.4km from where Veveonah stays.

"The 3G connection allows for students to take online examinations. For streaming activities, however, a higher connection is required," said MCMC.

They also added that they were in the midst of building another telecommunication tower which will allow for 4G connection.

"The telecommunication tower is being installed under the National Fiber and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) 1, and it is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021," they said in the statement.

A step in the right direction

Meanwhile, Veveonah said that improved internet connection would definitely help the youth in her village.

"The children and students living in the village will also be eager to continue with their studies as (better internet) will allow them to look for information easily when it comes to research and their studies," she said.

As for her tree climbing adventures, Veveonah said that even with better connection, she would most probably still go out and explore the jungles as she loves the peace and quiet there.



"That's a must to explore the jungle. Maybe, I can surf the internet at home, but during my leisure time, of course I'll visit the jungle and explore the trees," she said.

Veveonah said that her love for climbing trees was the main reason how she discovered that the internet connection was strong there.
